Children who have been in local authority care may need extra support at school to help them overcome the disadvantage of their pre-care experiences. This course explains the role and responsibilities of the school, classroom teachers and designated teacher, and gives guidance on admissions and how to access the extra funding available. It also discusses the mental health problems that previously looked-after children may experience, and emphasises the support that the local authority can offer to the child, staff members and school.
