Level 2 Functional Skills Qualification in English has given the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to read, write, speak and listen and communicate in English, and to apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and other real-life situations. 

With a focus on Spelling, punctuation and grammar, the qualification was designed to enable the apprentice to:-

  • Contribute to a range of discussions and contexts, including those that are unfamiliar.
  • Make presentations that are effective and present information clearly.
  • Understand, read and compare texts, enabling them to gather information, opinions and ideas.
  • Be able to write a range of texts efficiently and with varying complexity, cover extended written documents and communicate information and opinions effectively.
  • Ensure spelling, punctuation, grammar and accuracy.
  • Understand their audience and the importance of situational formal language and adaption.

Achievement of this qualification has allowed the apprentice to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to communicate with confidence, effectiveness and with an increasing level of independence. 

Earning Criteria

The Apprentice has demonstrated competence in Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communication

Some of the key, Skills and Knowledge that they developed consists of:

  • Identify and consider complex information, with the ability to give a cogent response and respond with appropriate language.
  • Using persuasive and clear information when presenting idea to others and adapt those contributions in accordance to the audience and situation.
  • Uptake a range of roles and contribute to discussions in a forward and progressive manner.
  • Make use of differing texts and information, identify the purpose and summarise from the different sources.
  • Analyse texts in relation to specific audiences and apply a suitable response.
  • Enable a clear, logical presentation of ideas and information, including complex subjects.
  • Utilise a range of writing styles, using correct sentence structure, complex sentences, paragraphs and grammar.
  • Ensuring written work is fit for purpose, with accurate spelling, commas, apostrophes and grammar that supports a clear meaning in the text provided.
